The PADI Self Reliant Diver Course with AQUASUB SCUBA DIVING CENTRE

The PADI Self Reliant Diver course, also known as Solo Diver, is designed to provide experienced divers with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely plan and execute dives on their own, without a dive buddy. The course covers topics such as the unique risks and challenges of solo diving, as well as the special equipment and techniques required for self-reliant diving.

During the course, you will learn about the different types of equipment and techniques used for solo diving, as well as how to plan and execute solo dives safely and responsibly. You will also learn about self-rescue techniques and emergency procedures, as well as how to manage and minimize risk while diving alone.

To enroll in the PADI Self Reliant Diver course, you must have a minimum of the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent, and be at least 18 years old. You must also have a minimum of 100 logged dives and be able to demonstrate advanced buoyancy control skills.

The PADI Self Reliant Diver course is an important training program for experienced divers who want to take their diving skills to the next level, and gain the confidence and independence to plan and execute dives on their own. However, it is important to remember that solo diving requires a higher level of knowledge, skills, and preparation to be done safely, and should only be attempted by divers who are properly trained and prepared.

Although diving with a buddy is the norm, there are reasons for an experienced diver to develop self-reliance and independence while diving. Learning to carry out dives without a partner can make you a stronger diver in most dive situations.

Course Overview

With proper training, equipment and the right attitude to accept the risks involved in independent diving, an experience diver can responsibly engage in dives without a buddy. Self-reliant diving is an adventure activity that is not for everyone, but does have its place. If you have the mental discipline and commitment to learn and follow self-reliant diving techniques, you'll bolster your skills and confidence when diving alone, in a dive pair or as part of a team.

You need to be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver who is at least 18 years old and has 100 logged dives to enroll in the Self-Reliant Diver course. You'll also complete a skills assessment with your PADI Self-Reliant Diver Instructor before diving into the course.

What You Will Learn

Learning how to compensate for situations you would normally handle with a buddy is the focus of the Self-Reliant Diver course. This includes proper dive planning using air consumption rate calculations, life support system redundancy, and independent management of dive emergencies. During three self-reliant training dives, you'll practice:

  • Performing an air consumption rate swim to gather information for later calculation.
  • Switching to a redundant air supply system during simulated emergency situations.
  • Swimming without a mask.
  • Navigating to various points, including your exit.
  • Using a DSMB.

Choose your next adventure!

Many shipwrecks are often found in deeper water. That’s why the PADI Deep Diver course is a natural companion to the PADI Wreck Diver course. Sometimes you can take these two specialties concurrently.

Other training to consider is the PADI Enriched Air Diver course on your way to PADI Master Scuba Diver.
